East Nashville: TN

Jeni’s Ice Cream

East Nashville

  1. Ugly Mugs

Order: Cup of coffee and the Argyle Sweater Breakfast Sandwich

Average Price: $

Perks: Ugly Mugs is a lovely coffee shop right next door to a couple boutiques and Jeni’s Ice Cream. They offer a Saturday music showcase, featuring local artists, and further support local artists with artwork displayed around the shop.

Caught My Eye: The coffee cake. Afternoon sunlight on the tables, and old armchairs in corners.

Also Try: Latte and Strawberry Nutella toast

  1. Pharmacy Burger Parlor and Beer Garden

Order: The Falafel Burger

Average Price: $$

Perks: The house-made sodas and shakes, in addition to the burgers and brats, make Pharmacy Burger one of the debated top-burger spots in Nashville. Coupled with the picnic-table style seating and neighbourly, cozy environment, this restaurant will always be one of my favourites.

Caught My Eye: Unassuming white exterior, dark wooden tables, striped white and red napkins.

Also Try: Cream soda and spiked milkshakes

  1. Mas Tacos Por Favor

Order: Fish tacos and Mexican Corn

Average Price: $

Perks: Easily the best tacos in Nashville, I wanted to try everything on the menu. The food was delicious and cheap and full of spice.

Be sure to check the hours before you go, however. This place has funny hours, ie they never seem to be open when I want to go. But it’s definitely worth planning your day around – the food is incredible.

Caught My Eye: Rotating menu and great drink selection. An antelope skeleton head mounted on the wall. An outdoor patio with colored flags strung from end to end.

Also Try: Horchata

  1. The Wild Cow

Order: The Wild Reuben

Average Price: $

Perks: Nashville’s first vegetarian restaurant and one of the first places I went to eat in Nashville, The Wild Cow will always have a special place in my heart. The vegetarian and vegan options are inventive and fresh, and on Monday nights, they have a Burger and Beer night where you can get beer + veggie burger + chips for $10.

Caught My Eye: The big cow picture on the wall. And this has nothing to do with the food, but the last time I went there, the waitress had this amazing purple lipstick, and I was so inspired that I went out and bought some the next week.

Also Try: Chipotle Seitan Tacos

Other Favourites:

Marché Artisan Foods = for the European style brunch

Butcher + Bee = for the vegan dishes

Two Ten Jack = for the Japanese-inspired fare

The Treehouse = for the cool interior and late-night bites

Olive and Sinclair Chocolate Co. = for the artisanal chocolate

Fat-Bottom Brewery = for the distinct hoppy beers

** Check-Out **

East-Side Story = an all-local bookstore
