- Frothy Monkey
Order: Pancakes + 2
Average Price: $-$$
Perks: Frothy Monkey has everything – open for all three meals and some late-night snacking, good coffee, and Happy Hour deals. Recently, they’ve also been hosting restaurant nights, where a celebrated Nashville chef will come in and cook a 3-4 course meal, paired with wine. The events are RSVP, pay-ahead, and seem to be a hit in Nashville so far. I love to go for brunch or later-night writing, over either a glass of wine or chai latte.
The other Frothy Monkey location is downtown and has the best upstairs loft area. Nestled between art galleries, it serves as a gathering place and the perfect stop for the Nashville art crawl, which happens the first Saturday of every month.
Caught My Eye: Wooden booth that lines one of the walls. The perfect poetry-writing corner. Outdoor deck. Artwork on the walls.
Also Try: Any of their sandwiches and the London Fog
- Taqueria Del Sol
Order: Shrimp + Grits
Average Price: $
Perks: My family and I ended up going here twice in the same weekend because we loved it so much. It’s a wonderful place for dinner, reasonably priced with such. good. food.
Caught My Eye: Closed on Mondays! Simple and accessible menu, and better pricing than Bar Taco down the street. Family stop.
Also Try: The Salsa Medley
- Burger Up
Order: Bison Burger or the Quinoa Burger, and Sweet Potato Fries
Average Price: $$
Perks: I love the long table seating, the low lighting with candles on the tables, and the Quinoa Burger is my favourite burger in Nashville. The best burger in Nashville is highly debated, but my personal ranking puts Burger Up in the top spot.
Caught My Eye: Inventive cocktail menu. Bartenders wearing the quintessential Nashville hipster look (think suspenders and oxfords).
Also Try: Apricot cider. Salmon Burger.
- Bar Taco
Order: The plantains
Average Price: $$
Perks: This new establishment specializes in fusion food. Boasting innovative street-food inspired combinations, (think Korean BBQ meets Spanish tapas), Bar Taco reminds me strongly of Barcelona – fresh food with lots of different spices, a great glass of sangria, and outdoor seating. It is a bit of a splurge in my opinion, but I would go for a drink and two plates of the plantains.
Caught My Eye: Large outdoor eating area with a fireplace and heating lamps. Blue and white décor. Indoor bar built of light oak wood, serving beautiful fruit drinks.
Also Try: Korean BBQ taco.
